6 Top Myths to Ignore…
.
.
And whenever you hear a fact or a statistic about how it’s damaging your health, you’re probably going to believe it because it harms the body in so many ways, from heart disease to lung cancer.
.
But your efforts to quit smoking for good are certainly not going to be exempt from false criticisms and information. The advent of the internet has made it so easy to spread myths and misinformation. And when you’ve got that sheer level of information, it can be difficult to separate truth from fact.
.
.
Listening to even a few of these myths could be making it harder for you to quit: They could be damaging your health! So, we’re here to separate fact from fiction.

The Biggest Smoking Myths #1:
Do Scare Campaigns Really Work?
.
.
One of the biggest things that people try to discredit are the pictures on cigarette packets which are designed to scare you from smoking.
.
If people are going to smoke, then you can’t stop them by scaring them. They already know smoking is bad for their health and they still do it anyway. That’s the mentality.
.
However, in reality, the truth is different. The majority of people cite two reasons for deciding to quit: health reasons and cost. So people ARE concerned about their health when it comes to smoking.
.
It’s true that they aren’t going to see one scare picture on a cigarette pack and then give up smoking right away. However, if the smoker is already on the fence, then it might just nudge him to quit.

The Biggest Smoking Myths #2:
Rolling Your Own Tobacco is…. healthier…
.
This is one of the strangest myths about smoking and it’s not clear exactly where it comes from. You’ve probably met a smoker who rolls his own cigarettes.
.
Such people can’t wait to tell you how it’s better than ready-made cigarettes because it doesn’t have any of those chemicals and additives in. It’s all natural tobacco.
.
While they won’t deny it’s still bad for you, they still somehow think that they’re doing themselves less harm than smoking ready-made cigarettes. The reality is actually very different.
.
Roll your own tobacco comes in a pouch which is exposed to the air throughout the day when people roll cigarettes. You’re also going to keep it for way longer than a normal pack of cigarettes. That means it’s going to dry out quite quickly. Unless of course, you guessed it, you put lots of additives in there.
.
The government in New Zealand put this myth to bed for good when they made it compulsory for all cigarette brands to state the amount of additives in tobacco.
,
They found that rolling tobacco contained about 22 percent additives whereas normal cigarettes contained less than 1 percent. So next time somebody tells you that they’re smoking ‘healthy’, all-natural tobacco, you can set them straight.

The Biggest Smoking Myths #3:
Cutting Down Smoking Will Help…But is it a good tactic, really?
.
.
Cutting down is a step in the right direction and it does stop you from doing further damage (for that one time).
.
However, you can’t reverse the negative effects by just doing this. The only way you can really start reversing the negative health effects of smoking is to give up completely.
.
Do stop-smoking aids really work? Aren’t you just swapping one addiction for another? If you cut out cigarettes and switch to vaping and its subsidiary products, you’re still smoking something.
.
Remember, vaping and e-cigarettes are still relatively new on the replacement-smoking scene. The future will only tell us whether there is harm in vaping. Research is already surfacing with popcorn lungs resulting from vaping.
.
The final best thing is simply to STOP. Full stop.

The Biggest Smoking Myths #4:
Oh…You Need Professional Help to Quit Definitely.
.
There are so many great services out there which can help you to quit smoking and they’re great. They can give you the support and resources that you need to kick smoking for good.
.
But there’s a myth that you simply can’t quit without some sort of professional help. In actual fact, most people who quit successfully do it on their own. When you finally quit, it’s usually because you’re in the right place in your life and you really want to do it.
.
When people fail to quit, it’s usually because they’re not really trying to. When the time is right, you’ll manage it, whether you have help or not.

The Biggest Smoking Myths #5:
Many Smokers Still Live to A Ripe Old Age…
.
.
Yes, some people who smoke don’t die of smoking related-diseases early in life. But they’re just incredibly lucky, and you wouldn’t have the same mentality about anything else.
.
What if somebody told you that only a small percentage of people die in a car crash, would you willingly get into a traffic collision? Didn’t think so!
.
So why do people still hold up one or two isolated examples of old smokers as a reason to carry on?
.
.
The Biggest Smoking Myths #6:
Filters On Cigarettes Help
.
The filter is there to filter out all of the bad stuff. The truth is that the filter doesn’t stop that much getting through at all. The only thing that it really does is filter out some of the smoke and makes the cigarette less harsh on your throat.
.
Cigarette filters are essentially a marketing ploy to make people think that cigarettes aren’t that bad for you. A cigarette with a filter is minimally less harmful, but not in a big enough way to make a difference. Either way, cigarettes are not good for you.
.
Governments Don’t Really Want You To Stop Smoking…
.
The hard fact is that governments are making so much money from tobacco tax that they don’t really want people to give up.
.
This doesn’t make sense at all, you reason. Firstly, why would they introduce new laws that aim to stop people from smoking if they wanted you to carry on?
.
The opposing issue is health care. The amount of government money that is spent on treating smoking related diseases far outweighs the amount brought in from tobacco tax, so they’re still losing money.
.
These smoking myths and illusions are only making it more difficult for you to kick the habit. So stop listening to them right now.
.
.
Do yourself a HUGE favour. STOP SMOKING. PERIOD.
