IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a nasty condition where the gut has trouble processing the food eaten. It can cause cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. These consequences have a significant negative effect on the sufferer’s quality of life.

With medical conditions, the cause of the problem must disgnosed before treatment is prescribed. This is to address the underlying cause of the issue.
The cause of IBS is controversial and its exact cause is still being argued over. Some medical professional believe that it is due to stress. Others believe it is primarily caused by a food allergy. Yet others attribute it to an infection.
Which ever the cause, there are ways of dealing with each one. It’s sometimes a trial-and-error procedure to see which treatments help to alleviate the condition.

The first remedy for IBS sufferers is medication. Those who suffer from cramps can take anti-spasmodics.
If loose stools are a problem, your doctor may recommend an anti-motility medicine. This can help to ensure that day-to-day activities are not disrupted too much by frequent visits to the toilet. Conversely, if constipation is an issue, take a laxative.
There are equivalent natural remedies which can help. Peppermint and ginger tea are fantastic for cramps, so drink up.
Gut imbalances can also lead to IBS Irritable bowel syndrome. It is a good idea to take probiotics. You can purchase these easily from a natural health food store.
Another good way of dealing with IBS is a controlled diet. There are various diets for IBS including the FODMAP diet.
This is a diet regime which limits the intake of items which are likely to cause a negative reaction in the gut of IBS suffers.
Common FODMAP foods are dairy, including milk and cheese, wheat and some fruits and vegetables, such as beetroot and cabbages.
Additionally if you suffer from IBS, it is a good idea to look out for, and avoid, Sorbitol in your favourite products. Sorbitol is a sweetener used in low-sugar items; it can aggravate a sensitive gut.
The idea of FODMAP is to remove controversial food items from your diet, then gradually introduce them back in. In such a way, it is possible to identify the offending foods and remove them from your diet permanently.
Stress is another factor which may be to blame for IBS. In fact, anxiety and depression are both linked to problems with the bowel.
It is not always easy to remove stress from your life, but you can make small changes which can help you be less stressed.
One beneficial activity for stress is Yoga or Tai Chi. These disciplines can help you calm down mentally, as your brain has to focus on what your body is doing.
This will take its attention form the things which are stressing you out (at least for a while).
Another very beneficial discipline to take up is meditation. This is so easy now, as you can get apps to help you.
It means you can regularly take 2 to 3 minutes out of your day to refocus on what you are doing.
Mindfulness and meditation are great for reducing stress levels. They help make difficult situations more easy to deal with.
