Get Smart on Flu
When you start coughing or sneezing, it’s easy to think you’ve come down with the flu. After all, we are currently in the middle of the peak season! And up to 20% of the US population end up with the flu at some point during the winter.
But do you know it’s definitely flu? A lot of the time, you could be getting flu-related symptoms when you are actually suffering from another condition.
Here are a few easy steps to follow to find out if it could be something other than winter flu!
What’s the take on flu medicine?
The best thing you can do is firstly to treat your symptoms like it is the flu. After all, that cold and cough could be plain old winter flu.
Therefore, you should make sure you are eating a healthy diet, take lots of vitamin C and get plenty of sleep.
There is much debate on flu medicine. You should make an informed decision whether or not to take this. After taking medicine, if you notice no improvement, then it’s time to head to the doctors to see what’s going on!
Write down all your symptoms
Whenever you get ill, the first thing you should do is write down your symptoms. So in this case, it might be that you note that you’re coughing or sneezing.
You should also consider any other symptoms. For example, when was the last time you had a period? You might not realise that flu symptoms could be a sign that you are expecting!
And you should think about when your symptoms tend to get worse. You might have an allergy to a pets like cats that you don’t even know about!
Writing down your symptoms will ensure you have plenty to tell your doctor when you go to your appointment.
Head to your doctor’s
So many of us put off going to the doctor’s unless we really have to. In fact, we tend to (prefer) suffering in silence!
Book an appointment to see your doctor as soon as possible. If you are struggling to get an appointment, you should consider downloading a Doctor App.
You will be able to communicate with a doctor and go through your symptoms without leaving the house. Therefore, there is no excuse not to speak with a doctor!
Check the timing
You can also tell if something else is wrong if these flu-like symptoms don’t go away quickly. After all, flu should resolve itself and disappear after a few days.
But if you notice your symptoms do not improve and are worsening, it could be a sign something else is wrong. In such a case, go to the doctor’s as soon as possible to diagnose the problem.
And remember not to panic; so many people Google their symptoms and then fear it’s something more serious than it really is!
A lot of the time the online information is wrong and you are not likely at death’s door! Therefore, always get professional advice before making assumptions about your health condition.
