Heal Yourself Naturally without Needing Your Doctor!
4 Common Health Problems You Can DIY
Have you ever pondered on the questions (below) every single time you’re ill or you’re feeling really lousy and below par, or you’ve this niggling pain here and there?
.
“Do I need to visit my doctor? Or don’t I really need to see him? Or am I just being paranoid and there’s really nothing wrong with me?”
.
Questions. Questions. Questions. And no clear-cut answer. These aren’t easy questions to give an answer to generally. Each situation is unique. Unique to you.
.
..
However, below are a few simple guidelines when you MUST, without delay, seek immediate medical attention:
.
GUIDELINES
.
You MUST seek immediate medical attention without fail when:
- You have stools that are black and/or look like tar
- You have diarrhea that continues for more than 24 hours.
- You bleed profusely.
- You cough up or vomit blood.
- You experience fainting spells that leave you dizzy and weak.
- You experience sudden changes in your vision.
- You easily get confused and/or have difficulty speaking.
- You experience pains in the chest or are abnormally short of breath.
- You experience sudden or severe pain in the abdomen.
- You have suicidal thoughts.
.
So if you have any of the above-listed symptoms, DON’T wait. Go visit your doctor immediately.
.
Now, let’s get down to a few health problems that you can ‘DIY’ (do-it-yourself) naturally, saving you the time needed for a trip to your doctor’s.
.
Also, you can treat yourself holistically without recourse to using allopathic medications which your doctor will prescribe you anyway. Why use prescription drugs when a natural remedy will do the same job?
.
You don’t have to follow what I do, but it is my motto not to take allopathic, prescription medications if the same problem can be treated holistically and with complimentary means successfully.
.
If, however, I really need to take allopathic medications in certain medical situations, I shall not hesitate. I shall take them. And then, only as sparingly as possible, without compromising anything.
.
Each individual situation is unique. You can consult a qualified complementary health therapist to guide, advise and treat, you in this.
.
If you find a medical practitioner who is also an ardent complementary health practitioner, you have hit jack-pot! Hold on to this person for dear life (dear health!), and don’t let him/her go!
.
Now back to natural home remedies that you can use to treat yourself for common health problems:
.
.
Natural Home Remedies for Common Health Problems
.
.
#1. THE COMMON COLD A health problem as old as our ancestors!
.
The common alternative school of thought is that the common cold should not be suppressed with popular prescription or OTC (over-the-counter) drugs, but be allowed to run its full course right to the very end.
.
The reasoning is that the common cold is an acute healing crisis. It is one of Nature’s way of ridding the body of accumulated wastes and toxins.
.
The use of allopathic prescription drugs stops the cold dead in its tracks. The wastes and toxins are then reabsorbed back into the body to incubate and fester until some major illness has grown big enough to rear its ugly head some time sooner or later. And most of us then wonder what went wrong!
.
That course of the common cold may be eased naturally and without disruption by taking certain vitamins / supplements and herbs.
.
*** Consume citrus fruits and red bell peppers for Vitamin C
in abundance. Or take 2 to 3 grams daily of Vitamin C (Ester C).
.
.
*** You may also want to take some extra zinc
which has been shown to be effective.
.
.
*** Use herbs
for relief and to help expel toxins and wastes.
.
.
~ Teas to promote sweating:
peppermint, elderflower, feverfew, catmint
.
Formula for tea:
Equal parts of:
* peppermint and yarrow, or
* peppermint and elderflower, or
* hyssop and white horehound
.
Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to each combination for extra potency and improved circulation
PREPARATION
1 teaspoon of each herb to 1 cup boiling water.
Infuse for 10 to 15 minutes.
Add pinch of cayenne pepper.
Dosage: Drink freely.
.
.
~ Drink plenty of hot lemon and honey teas.
The addition of Echinacea to honey and lemon tea is another big boon for relief of the common cold.
.
~ Cinnamon: Helps to relieve symptoms of cold and flus.
.
.
*** Dab 1 to 2 drops of sesame oil
on the insides of your nostril. Sesame oil has been used to prevent the cold virus from implanting itself in the system.
.
Rub a drop or two of sesame oil on the inside of your nostrils. Studies have shown that sesame oil can slow down, or even prevent, the cold virus from taking hold.
.
.
*** Do a detox
to help the body expel wastes and toxins.
.
* A great and easy home remedy
Fill a wide saucepan with about 5cm /2 inches of water.
Add :
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon thyme
a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Heat the water until it steams. Turn off the heat. Wrap your head and face in a soft towel.
CAUTION:
Exercise extreme caution as steam can burn. Taking great care not to burn yourself with the steam, put your face over the steaming saucepan concoction. Breathe in the steam through your nose and mouth.
.
Finally, we come full-circle back to the age-old, time-tested…
An Old Fashion Remedy, The Chicken Soup!
.
Yes, you read correctly, chicken soup! Just like yours and my grandmother used to make when you were a child and she lovingly coaxed you to drink the soup when you were weak and teary and in need of cuddles and hugs because you were ill with the wretched common cold.
.
Research has shown that chicken soup is full to the brim with certain amino acids that do an excellent job in breaking up the mucus that makes the poor sufferer cough up his lungs.
.
The hot steam from the soup doesn’t do a bad job either to help clear the lungs.
.
A WORD OF CAUTION
If you are treating young children with natural means, you MUST consult a medical doctor if these home remedies do not give positive result within 1 to 2 days.
.
#2. SORE THROAT
/
.
This could be a symptom of many other underlying health conditions which may require priority attention.
.
However, for a simple acute sore throat, try the following remedies:
.
Simple Remedies
* Herbal Teas:
Sage, Chamomile, Marigold flowers, Marshmallow, Mullein
* Gargle with
~ aloe vera gel or fresh juice (diluted in water)
~ apple cider vinegar (diluted in water)
~ (sea) salt water (diluted in water)
.
* Recommended Supplements
~ Vitamin C (Ester C) – 1 gram thrice daily
~ Vitamin A – 7,500 iu daily
~ Zinc – 25 g
~ Beta Carotene – 200,000 iu
#3. FEVER
.
.
CAUTION:
Most fevers last a day or so. If it lasts more than this, consult a medical practitioner immediately. In general, for infant illnesses of any kind, consult a doctor for treatment.
~~~~~~~~
A fever is nature’s way correcting itself when it is out of balance. A fever is simply the body’s immune system’s reaction to:
1. defend the the body against bacterial or viral attacks, or
2. the decomposition of morbid matter into simpler forms for elimination, or
3. trauma, or
4. toxins released by agents of infection.
.
Finally, it is, in a nutshell, a healing crisis. It is the body’s effort to fight back toward recovery. .
In the words of the holistic healer, Dr. Samuel Thomson
“…Fever should not be suppressed with drugs. The body’s increased heat is a sign that the body is engaged in an extraordinary effort to cleanse itself of a disease influence. We are to support it, but see that temperature does not get out of hand.”
.
Discharges are often a very necessary part of the cure. As soon as toxins and wastes are expelled from the kidneys, skin, bowels and lungs (through respiration), symptoms abate and the patient experiences a feeling of well-being.
.
This is a turning point toward recovery ~ the body ridding itself of poisons and toxins.
* To relieve tension on the lungs and other internal organs, use herbs:
* drink yarrow (achillea millefolium) tea. This tea also helps to eliminate wastes via the kidneys.
* Elderflower or peppermint teas are helpful at the chill stage of a fever.
* Nettle tea is very favourable.
.
.
* A timely laxative
to cleanse the stomach and bowels helps very favourably to reduce the temperature.
.
.
* Take abundant amounts of Vitamin C
drink including fresh lemon and orange.
Step up the intake of Vitamin C supplement –
Ester C: 1 gram 3 times a day.
* Step up your intake of water.
Water helps to flush out toxins and poison. Drink up to 8 glasses of pure water per day
.
.
* The Wet Sock Treatment:
It sure sounds a bit loopy, but it’s certainly worth a try! First, make sure your feet are nice and warm as toast.
– Take clean cotton socks, and soak them in cold (even icy) water.
– Wring out the excess water from the socks, and put them on. Yes, put them on!
– Cover the wet, cotton socks with a dry pair of wool socks.
– Go right to bed, cover up well, and rest.
The idea is that your body is reacting to the cold wet socks by heating them up, and the effect increases the circulation of blood, clearing the virus out of your system faster!
#4. CONSTIPATION
.
.
Prevention is much easier than treatment
(as usual!) to prevent and treat constipation, make sure you drink lots and lots of water (1-2 litres a day) and have plenty of fibre in your diet.
.
.
* Increase your consumption of fibre
The best sources of fibre are beans of any kind, leafy green vegetables, nuts, peas and fruit with the skins on.
Remember that old saying: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”? Maybe that has to do with the amount of fibre in the skin!
.
.
* Another dietary tip is to eat fermented foods
like yogurt, kefir, tempeh, miso, and sauerkraut; as well as sprouted foods like wheat and alfalfa.
.
Why? Because all these foods contain healthy bacteria, and a healthy digestive system needs healthy bacteria!
.
One note of caution . . . if any of these foods makes you gassy or bloated, try substituting it for another. There’s no need to put yourself through discomfort when there are so many other choices.
.
And, by the way, all these tips can help prevent diarrhea as well!
.
**************************
Use the tips suggested here when you or someone you care for falls victim or one or other ailment discussed here.
.
You’ll be glad to save time, money and, at the same time, safe-guard your health by not taking unnecessary prescription drugs when you can use a natural remedy just as effectively, if not better.
.
Save your medical doctor some of his precious time that he can spend on patients with severe, serious illnesses.
