Keep Your Body Healthy ~ If you don’t look after your body, it’ll break down; then where will you live?
Our bodies are pretty hardy creations. With a bit of luck, they get us through 70+ years of hurtling down the freeway in a metal box and all the million-calorie Christmas dinners.
And don’t forget the general stress and strain of everyday life!
Many of us have the best intentions for treating our bodies well, but life seems to get in the way.
Never under-estimate the little things which help: every positive decision you make regarding visiting the doctor, taking an hour to meditate, or choosing a salad over a hamburger makes a big difference.
Eat well and exercise
Try to make positive decisions when it comes to mealtime and snacking. You might want a bag of potato chips and an entire bar of chocolate, but is that what your body really needs?
Instead of vegetating in front of the television, get up, get your sweatpants on, and go for a run. We can only live life if we’re alive, so get your heart pumping, your fat burning and blood rushing.
Make sure you’ve done everything in your power to keep your body in tip-top condition.
Quit the bad stuff
Smoking is becoming less and less cool as the years pass and more strict legislation is introduced. However, that doesn’t necessarily help the last few who are hanging on to nicotine for dear life.
If quitting smoking is still evading you, take this as your sign to stop. Your heart, gums, lungs, and entire body will thank you almost immediately.
Additionally, all that money you save can be put towards your newly lengthened retirement (or a vacation, whatever).
Wear the right clothes
It sounds petty, but our clothes can have a huge impact on the health of our body.
Tight clothes can really restrict blood flow. This, can ultimately cause damage and even a stroke. If you wear high-heeled shoes on a regular basis, you could be looking at foot surgery a few years down the line.
The consequences of wearing uncomfortable clothes which focus on fashion over practicality are graver than they might seem. So the next time you throw on a pair of skinny jeans and heels, just quickly consider the damage they’re doing to your body.
Get regular health checks
Usually, if there’s something wrong with your body you can feel it. However, some things remain hidden.
Never miss your health checkups. Not only can they catch a problem before it gets serious, they can also ensure you don’t have to pay over the odds for extensive surgery when something goes wrong.
Make sure you see your doctor, ophthalmologist, gynaecologist and dentist on a semi-regular basis, if just for peace of mind.
Don’t forget your mental health
It’s not all about caring for your body; your mental health has to be a priority too. Laugh, dance, meditate, sleep, and ponder the world, and try not to let anxiety and stress get the better of you.
This is the only body you’re getting, and the only opportunity you’ll get to live in it, so make sure you’re taking care of it along the way.
