The hustle and bustle of the city calls out to many of us. Thousands of faces, busy bars, the hum of rush hour transport.

However, it’s not all fun and games when you have work early in the morning and are trying to get a decent bit of shut eye. So how do you get a good night’s sleep when there are cats mating outside of your window? When there are lads chanting as they make their way to the local bar? #1. Consider The Location

If you haven’t yet chosen your new home, make sure you think carefully about location. When you’re heading to the big city, pickings may well be slim.

It might be tempting to take a home above a bar in the main district of the city.

It might all be fun and games when you want to go out and join the students as they trawl the bars. But it’s not so great when you’re trying to get your head down because you have an important meeting at 9 am on the other side of town.

Choose your home carefully. Central is convenient but avoid streets that are known to throw massive house parties or noted hangouts for party goers.

Are you a light sleeper? If so, you might want to opt for a grove or cul-de-sac rather than a main road where traffic will be passing at all hours.

#2. Use Earplugs

Already stuck in a noisy home? Do inconsiderate neighbours make questionable thumps on the walls at all hours? Does your housemate play Enrique Iglesias full blast at 8 am on weekday mornings?

Not to fear. There’s a way to block all of this out. Earplugs are a lifesaver when it comes to getting some decent shut-eye. Find silicone ear plugs for the most effective form of external noise control. It’s important to find the right shape and brand for you.

Politely bring issues up. People will make the effort to avoid irritating you. Most people will begin to control and monitor their behaviour when asked to.

Still not getting sufficient sleep? You might be suffering from insomnia. This isn’t the odd night where you can’t nod off for a couple of hours. This is when you genuinely cannot get to sleep for long periods of time, no matter how hard you try.
