Parental Woes : Are you a new parent ? Read on
You’ve been trying for a few weeks. Five days before your period, you get a positive result! You’re going to become a parent. Congratulations!
However, there are many worries and woes that now begin.
Worry #1: Wrong Test Results
Often, you’re far more likely to get a false negative than a false positive. It is advisable to conduct a few tests. If you get three positives, you can almost guarantee that you’re pregnant.
Additionally, the earlier you take a test, the more likelihood there is that you’ll get a false result. Early isn’t always the best idea. Wait a few weeks for some signs and then only take a test.
It’s advisable to let your doctor conduct the tests so that they’re 99 percent accurate. Fretting and doubting can stress you up. This may cause you to lose your baby. Stress can cause conditions such as a myopic pregnancy which can lead to a miscarriage.
Many women suffer from the ghost pregnancy syndrome. In this situation you convince yourself you’re pregnant when you might not actually be. So, don’t fret and worry. Let nature tell you whether you’re really pregnant.
Don’t read too much into any symptoms and that includes negative signs. For instance, many women get stressed when they see ‘spotting’ after a positive result. It’s quite common for women to bleed a little during pregnancy. As long as it isn’t a full period, it’s nothing to worry about.
Worry #2: Genetic Defects
No parent wants to learn that their child may be born with a genetic disorder or defect such as down syndrome. Signs of defective conditions can often be seen during the ultrasound. Parents can then decide what to do and whether they want to continue with the pregnancy. It’s a difficult decision that many parents in such situations have to face.
Worry #3: Zika
If you are pregnant this year, one of your biggest worries will undoubtedly be the Zika virus. Spread by mosquito bites, the Zika virus has been linked to genetic defects in babies, include poor brain development. However, rest assured: it seems as though the disease is now under control.
Worry #4: New Parenting Capability Worries
Certainly, many parents worry whether they are ready to have a baby even after they find themselves pregnant.
When it comes to parenting, there are lots of books and websites you can visit to get advice and reassurance. Ultimately, parenting is something that you learn as you go along.
For some parents, the process of becoming a mom or dad will be easier. For others, it will be more of a challenge. With perseverance and determination, every parent rises to the occasion and does his/her best.
Worry #5: Post Natal Depression
Postnatal depression often happens to new moms. Parents don’t feel connected to their baby because subconsciously they think it might not be theirs. After birth, some moms are often hesitant to let the baby leave their sight, even if it is to get care from qualified medical professionals. This condition needs to be treated. Consult your doctor.
Worry #6: Paternity Issues
If you have a baby through IVF, one of the biggest fears is that the baby doesn’t belong to the father. Luckily, there’s an easy way to combat this worry. You can buy a paternity test kit and put your mind at rest. You can make sure the little one you took home from the hospital is definitely yours.
Worry #7: Home Ready?
Finally, one of the later worries that you may have as a new parent is whether or not your home is ready. You should start prepping your home for the arrival of the baby at around three months into the pregnancy. Obviously, safety is the main concern here, and you can’t leave this until after the birth.
Make sure you focus on dangerous points around and inside the home. Plugs need to be covered; there should be a fence around the fire and a gate on the stairs. You can look at a pro baby safety site to make sure that you are covering all of the necessary bases.
