If you suffer from aches and pains, headaches and stiff joints and perhaps an aching back holds you back on a regular basis, then you’ll be delighted to learn that Reiki can help!
.
Reiki is a hands-on energy healing method that has been used for centuries. It is simple for anyone to learn – in fact, you could say that it is instinctive for all humans!
.
Why do I say that Reiki can help? (Remember my previous newsletter,”7 Ways to Overcome Pain with Reiki”? It’s from a while back, but you might want to reference it here!)
.
First of all, anyone can do it! What is the first thing you do for yourself or others – especially kids – when they hurt themselves?
.
Generally, people cover that area that hurts with their hands. That is the first step in Reiki!
.
So now you know the first step: Cover the hurting and aching part with your hands. Do it very gently – you don’t even have to physically touch the skin!
.
What are other tips for a Reiki approach to aches and pains?
.
* Rub your hands together in a rapid, circular motion.
This is believed to activate the energy. It will at the very least warm up your hands before you work on the area that is experiencing pain.
.
* In Reiki, we ask our higher power to help
the person we are working with for their “highest and greatest good.”
.
* If you have a meditative practice, now would be a great time to meditate.
If you don’t currently have a meditative practice, go back and check out the newsletter from a couple months back: “Meditation and Pain Relief – Is There a Link?” Click Here
.
* Make sure you are comfortable.
Arrange pillows or armrests so that there is no muscle tension or strain in your hands or arms. Any discomfort will make it harder to focus and concentrate.
.
* Picture the area that is aching or in pain as it was when it was uninjured.
Remember the sensation of what it was like to be pain-free.
.
* Now, colour that area with a clean, green light.
Some people visualize a swirling, spiral of green light centering on the area. Other people visualize a blanket of green light covering the area. Picture whatever you can keep in your mind.
.
* Once you have the area bathed in a green light or blanket,
picture that area healthy and pain-free (still bathed in green).
.
* Hold that focus for at least 5 to 10 minutes.
As you practise, you should be able to hold the focus for a longer and longer duration. You will also eventually begin to get an idea – perhaps just a gut feeling when you have spent enough time. Of course, the best reason to end the healing is when the pain or aching has stopped!
.
* Don’t forget to breathe!
I know that sounds obvious, but it is amazing how many people get so focused that they hold their breath.
.
As you finish, it is always a good idea to take a few more moments in your meditative “space.”
.
After you are finished with your healing session, here are some great tips and things to do:
not only the area you just worked on, but see yourself feeling completely well, energetic and healthy.
.
* Drink lots and lots of water.
The general rule of thumb is to take your weight in pounds and drink half that amount in ounces of pure water. In that method, a 128-pound person would drink the recommended eight 8-oz.glasses of water per day.
.
* Fill a bathtub with hot water, and add about a cup of Epsom salts.
This mineral-rich mixture can help replenish your body. On top of that, a hot bath is a nice relaxing way to end a day.
.
* Add a drop of lavender essential oil into the bath water
and then sit back and relax! Nothing helps healing more than pure relaxation. The lavender oil is also great if you need help getting to sleep.
.
* Another visualization that I often suggest is used to help keep you grounded – almost literally!
Being grounded helps you stay balanced and allows the healing process to continue. Think of yourself as a tree, with your feet representing the roots of the tree. Some people suggest visualizing the roots as leaving through your own root chakra – again, whatever picture works best for you is just fine!
.
As you picture yourself as a tree with your roots reaching deep down into the earth and spreading out all around you, giving you stability and balance, also feel the sun shining on you, providing you endless energy and warmth! By the way, you don’t have to wait for an injury to do Reiki healing on yourself.
.
Position your hands at each chakra for a few minutes, and visualize healing taking place. If you can begin to do this practice every day, you will soon see some significant health benefits – no matter what your starting point!
