Common Teenage Health Issues which May Scare Parents Senseless
3 Issues and How to Deal with Them
Teenage health issues !!!! What parent is not familiar with these? As everyone should know – but few adults can remember – the feelings that you have when you are a teenager can be incredibly emotional.
.
When all those hormones are flying around, mistakes are often made. These mistakes could leave an indelible mark on a young adult’s life.
.
It’s no surprise, then, that parents are so worried about the health of their teenage kids.
.
There are, of course, a vast array of health problems faced by growing adolescents. Some stand out much more than the rest for anxious parents.
.
.
.
We’re going to explore some 3 everyday worries with you today. Read on to find out more.

Teenage Health Issues: #1
Mental Health
.
First and foremost, the vast majority of parents get a huge shock when their little angels turn into adolescents.
.
Mood swings become the norm, and there are significant shifts in behavioral issues.
.
It’s also important to understand that when the teenage brain is going through so many changes, it is more open to developing problems.
Issues of self-worth become apparent, as do body image problems, in boys and girls.
.
And there are so many other extraneous factors involved: bullying, peer rejection, and many others. These can end up with severe mental health problems, such as suicidal thoughts.
.
For parents, the best thing to do during this period is keeping lines of communication open at all times. However, you also need to learn how to give space when it is needed and be there when your child needs you.

Teenage Health Issues: #2
Drugs and Alcohol
.
Teens are renowned for trying new things and experimenting. Unfortunately, we all know what the effects of this experimentation could be.
.
This often makes parents feel like they have to lay down the law when it comes to things like drugs and alcohol. It’s not much of a surprise – over intoxication can prove fatal. Teens are more likely to make serious mistakes while under their influence.
.
However, everyone should be aware that the rebellious element that is present in most teens will kick in. Yes, this can be incredibly difficult to deal with.
.
Again, parents need to ensure that their kids understand they are there for them. Your teen may need methadone detox treatment or have to attend AA meetings. Whatever, it’s important to back them with whatever they try. Your duty is to help them resolve their problems.
.
Finally, many teens with drug or alcohol issues often have underlying causes for their addictions. There could be a link with their mental health.
.
.
Teenage Health Issues: #3
Sexual Health
.
Finally, with all those hormones flying around, teenagers will, inevitably, start thinking about sex – a lot.
.
And one of the biggest fears of parents is that their child will be responsible for any pregnancy which happens.
But there are other issues too. STDs are rife amongst teens who have a casual attitude towards sex.
.
Plus, of course, we have issues like sexting and smartphone pictures which can cause untold problems and embarrassment for young adults.
.
It’s vital for parents to have a sensible and grown-up attitude to sex and sexual health early on in the teen years. And while frank discussion might be uncomfortable, it’s a lot easier to deal with than a nasty bout of gonorrhea or herpes.
