What is Your Cancer Risk?
.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about cancer. However, science and medicine these days are excellent.
.
This means that cancer is not necessarily the life sentence it once was. There are holistic treatments and there are orthodox treatments.
.
With good screening processes together with early detection and efficient treatment, many people can go on to live long and happy lives after a cancer diagnosis.
.
While it can seem a little morbid, it’s important to know what your cancer risks are. This will allow you to know what to watch out for and when you should be attending screenings.
Breast Cancer: Women Over 50
.
Breast cancer screenings, however, aren’t offered to women until age fifty unless you have an increased risk. Breast cancer in younger women is often diagnosed later and tends to be more aggressive and difficult to treat.
.
Treatment can involve chemo and radiotherapy, removing the lump or removing one (or both) breasts.
.
Cancer can be an incredibly testing time for the patient and their family, so attending a cancer center can be helpful. Here you can rest assure that you’re being well cared for during this difficult period.
Breast cancer and ovarian cancer are linked due to the same genetic mutation. Because of this, some women who have completed their families also opt to have a hysterectomy as well to prevent future issues.
Prostate Cancer: Men Over 50
.
As there are no symptoms for many years while this cancer develops, it’s important to keep tabs on things. Therefore, yearly checks have to be done.
.
As well as having your prostate physically checked, a blood test is also done which can detect cancer changes in the blood. Should any problems arise, surgery or radiation can be performed.
.
Another treatment method is high-intensity focused ultrasound. This uses high-frequency ultrasound energy to heat and destroys cancer cells precisely without causing any damage to the surrounding tissues.
Cervical Cancer: Women Mid Twenties Plus
.
This is a very common virus which most sexually active women get at some time or another. It’s completely symptomless. In most cases, the body removes the virus naturally within two years.
.
However, in a small number of cases, the virus can cause changes in the cervical cells which can go on to cause cancer.
.
Caught early it will simply be a case of removing the cells before they become cancerous. If it’s already turned to cancer, it can be treated by removing either some or all of the uterus and lymph nodes in the pelvis.
.
While this stops the cancer from spreading, it, of course, means a woman is no longer able to carry a baby. This can be very distressing to women who have yet to start a family.
Good screening processes mean that cervical cancer is very preventable. Due to this, it has one of the lowest death rates of all cancers. It is a treatable 100% of the time if it’s picked up early.
.
All women (starting early to mid-twenties) should attend cervical screenings. It’s literally a case of a few minutes discomfort in the doctor’s office for a screening which could save your life.
