1000 post-menopausal women participated in the Women’s Health Initiative Memory Study.

Over a 8-year period, the researchers collected data that included the participating women’s DHA and EPA levels including brain volumes. (MRI measurement at age 78).

What caused excitement was the finding that higher levels of omega-3, and in particular DHA, showed a direct correlation with markedly larger brain volumes in the subjects.
