A healthy lifestyle is not just about eating healthy foods and running three times a week.

In fact, eating too much of certain foods may make you intolerant to them. And from running too much, you could do your knees a lot of damage.

To get healthy, start listening to your body. Listening to your body is the most important thing you can do for your health.
This is something which took me a long time to fully understand. I thought I was being healthy by eating whole grain foods and eating salads for lunch and dinner.

In truth, I didn’t really feel that great. I simply wasn’t listening to my body. I was eating what was deemed healthy. However, it was actually not doing me any favours at all.

Body Consciousness: The question to ask is why we have stopped listening to our bodies. Well, it has to do with the lives we now lead in the 21st century.

We sit for hours on office chairs which give us bad posture and backache. We don’t get up and walk around during breaks. Our extended screen time on the computer contributes to tiredness and fatigue.

Mindfulness is one tool which is being promoted a lot in many circles. If you practise meditation, mindfulness is probably something that you may already do.

In a nutshell, mindfulness is quietly observing. You observe yourself and your feelings. You observe in peace and quiet.

Mindfulness is very similar to meditation. When you begin this, you may notice that you have racing thoughts. However, as time goes on, you start to quieten down and listen to your body.

It works wonders in letting negative thoughts go. You can also use it to really focus on parts of your body you haven’t paid attention to for a while. To do it, you simply find a quiet place, close your eyes and start to focus on your breath. Take nice, deep breaths into your lungs. As you exhale, you simply let go.

Get into a simple routine of breathing in deeply (for a count of 4, then hold it for 4, and out for 4). After this, you will begin to develop a better sense of focus. This will help you to become mindful. Observe internally how you are feeling.

Body Consciousness is the simple art of being aware of what is happening in your life via your body. Using the 2 techniques above will get you started to be in tune with the inner working of your body and your life. Incorporating Body Consciousness as an art into your life will greatly enhance your enjoyment of your life!
